One of the many reasons why you should without a doubt visit Santo Domingo? That is without a doubt the gastronomy. The vibrant city is full of hidden spots where you'll find yourself in surprising settings. And not only the interior will blow you away, they also know a thing or two about flavor combinations and delicious cocktails! That is why today we are listing our five favorite restaurants where you can have a great meal. So that you too can discover the amazing cuisines!

The best memories are made around the table.

1. SONOMA Bistro

Want to avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown for a while? Then you can head over to SONOMA Bistro. A restaurant located between Blue Mall and Agora Mall, two very famous Shopping Malls in Santo Domingo. Attention: they actually do have a small Bistro at Agora Mall itself where you can grab lunch or a coffee. But here we are talking about their own restaurant with a great terrace!

At SONOMA you can find a surprising mix between healthy dishes (like KETO!), tapas and Asian fast food such as Sushi and Pork Belly Buns. My personal favorites are the Spinach Dip, the King Crab Roll sushi and the Burrata with Pear Confit. You should really try these out!

2. Peperoni

In one of the best neighborhoods of Santo Domingo you will find the wonderful restaurant called Peperoni. Inside, you'll find yourself in a luxurious setting. As if you walk into a villa and can eat in this person's living room. It is truly beautiful! Next to this so-called living room you will find a space where there is a bar and lounge set up. And finally, they have the most amazing restrooms. Hello selfies!

Their menu is as surprising as the interior. You'll find dishes like a Carpaccio with pesto of pistachios, goat cheese and parmesan. Really delicious! Also their cauliflower soup with apple and bacon and the Pasta al Burro are worth trying.

3. Asadero Los Argentinos

The Hotel El Embajador is world famous! And named one of the best hotels in the Dominican capital. On the same street you will find a lot of local restaurants, including Asadero Los Argentines. An Argentine restaurant where you can enjoy delicious Argentine meat!

The decor is rather simple and cozy. In fact, you really get into the local cuisine here. But their meat is really delicious! We chose the Churrasco and Asado and have not regretted it for a moment. Together with Yuca's au gratin puree and potatoes in the oven, this was an excellent dinner!

4. El Mesón de la Cava

Just behind the Hotel El Embajador you will find the beautiful park of Mirador del Sur. This is where many sports enthusiasts and walkers come to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. And right across the park you will find a surprising restaurant: El Mesón de la Cava. Literally a restaurant in a cave! So without a doubt, you really come here for the experience and the setting. Because say honestly, eating in a cave, it's not something you can experience every day.

The menu is rather traditional and has something for everyone. When we visit the restaurant we always order their focaccia and a large seafood paella for the whole table. Delicious!

5. Mijas

Do you like a homey atmosphere and restaurant that are not too big? Then Mijas is the place for you! Located in the beautiful Piantini you end up in a small restaurant where you immediately feel at home. And especially during the holidays, when their giant Christmas tree is set up, this is the distinct place to dine. But also throughout the year, this is a winner!

Here you can choose between different tapas, a delicious homemade Paella or for a fish or meat dish. We already tried out all the option! Our favorites are the Pulpo Gallego al Ajillo (grilled squid with garlic), the Croquetas with cheese and Iberico ham, the Carpaccio of beef and finally, their Paella of course!
