That the Dominican Republic is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture and unspoiled nature, is no longer a secret. But that you can also experience enormous adventure is what we were able to discover in recent years. Keloke founder Cindy therefor tells you about her favorite excursion: snorkeling at Isla Catalina.
Rise above and dive deep
My first trip to the Caribbean island was in March 2019. Since then, I have returned each time, whenever possible, and have traveled almost the entire coastline. Including the island of Isla Catalina, which is known for its beautiful beaches and translucent waters. So let me tell you more about it!
La Romana is where it all begins
When you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of your hotel or the city you're staying in, this excursion with GoExcursions is certainly welcome! Not only will you be able to completely change your mind thanks to the relaxing boat trip, you can also enjoy the beautiful nature and the deep waters full of surprises.
If you are staying in La Romana, your trip starts around 8.00 in the morning. You will be personally picked up by a driver who will take you to the excursion bus, a few kilometers away. Together with the other tourists and visitors you drive a little further, through Casa De Campo, where you dream away by seeing the luxurious villas.
Once you arrive at the port, you board a catamaran. Here there is enough space to enjoy the whole day safely in your own personal bubble. You can safely store your items and they have drinks and snacks on board. And for those who want; you can let your inner Beyoncé out to the great music during the trip!
Bring out your adventurous self
The excursion on the island consists of two parts. First, they stop a few meters from the southern part of Isla Catalina where you will be immersed in an underwater world full of coral and fish.
In the second part, on the island itself, you can unleash the adventurer in you for a few hours, while enjoying a delicious lunch in between! Take the pedalo, kayak or snorkel and discover the beautiful coral around you.
Don't forget to stop at the local store, where you can buy the best souvenirs and your Piña Colada. Because no trip to the Dominican Republic is complete without this refreshing cocktail, served in a fresh pineapple. Cheers!
Extra tip: bring your underwater camera to pull out the cutest pictures. After all, the water there is so fantastic that you will want to capture these moments without a doubt. Enjoy!
Whether you stay in La Romana, Punta Cana or another resort, GoExcursions will make sure you have an unforgettable day! We do recommend that you bring your own snorkel goggles, so you don't have to worry about fitting them and keeping them hygienic. You can buy them in the local supermarkets or certain "Carol" pharmacies for about 15€.
