"The Dominican Republic has it all" is the slogan of the island's tourist board. And they are right. Because from rivers to waterfalls, adventurous excursions in the mountains, beautiful beaches, and fun activities in the bustling cities, you will never be bored! But one area that still stands out for us, without a doubt, is Bahia de Las Aguilas. And we'll tell you more about it today!

What happens at the campfire stays at the campfire

This time we won't let you be surprised by the beautiful beaches you can find all over the island, but by the campsites in the southwest part of the island. You heard correctly, we have a unique camping experience for you! And that too in the most beautiful part of the country.

The "Jaragua" national park is located in the southwestern part of the Dominican Republic, just a few kilometers from the border with Haiti. Barahona, a small town nearby, is three hours from Santo Domingo and two hours from glamping. And because it has its own airport, it is the perfect stopover when traveling across the island.

Feel welcome in nature

While driving to Cabo Rojo, you will pass by a big nature park called "Jaragua". On the road you might therefor see flamingo's bathing in one of the rivers and also iguanas. They're often seen around the area which is not a surprise if the glamping site is right next to Bahia de las Aguilas.

Once arrived at Rancho tipico cueva de las águilas*, you get overwhelmed by an oasis of peace. The wooden structure of the entrance brings warmth and a very welcoming feeling. But also the dining area, chill place at the border of the sea and campfire, are making a direct impression. You immediately now that you will have a great time at the ranch.

At only a few walks from the chill and dining area, you will see the first tents. Family size, single use and for couples as well. The team will guide you to your tent and help you with the basics such as a rechargeable light for the night. Next to that it's all up to you. You're free. Free in nature and free to spend your time however you would like too.

Our tent was at the border of the sea and has it's own lounge in front of it. With a mesmerizing sunset at night, we couldn't be more happy. However, you need to be quite confident. It was the first time that we slept alone in a tent and didn't know what to expect. You hear every noise, animal passing by and when the sea is rough, you experience a great adventure during the night. But it was amazing! Especially when waking up because of the noise of nature. It's a feeling you need to experience to understand.

We often get into a mindfulness-mode when listening to crashing waves or birds singing in the morning. And that's exactly how we experienced our stay at the Ranch. We woke up full of energy, the clouds where cotton pink and the fresh air is always making you feel so alive.

Once you woke up you can join everyone in the dining area for a breakfast buffet of local fresh fruits and plates. Also eggs, bread and other basics are available. But remember that it's glamping, not an all-inclusive hotel where they serve cereals for breakfast. And that's what we loved about it as well! Back to basics with a healthy and powerful breakfast.

Go snorkeling at Bahia de las Águilas

You can walk around the area of the ranch, discover the nature of the Jaragua park or go for some adventure. And talking about adventure, Bahia de las Aguilas is perfect if you like to do some snorkeling.

At only ten minutes from the ranch you have the beach of Bahia de las Aguilas. The boat drops you and picks you up at a time you agree on. Take some picknick items with you, a towel and enjoy the peaceful area around you. However, make sure to take everything with you again, including your trash. It's a protected area where turtles reproduce and lay their eggs. Also iguanas and other animals are having their home at the beach. Respect their home and leave it as clean as it was when you arrived.

Once back at the Ranch you can enjoy a drink at the chill area and watch the beautiful sunset. Music will be playing at the bar and it's just you, your joggings, friends and family. Everyone is laughing, enjoying their time and you will make memories for life. After dinner you can all sit around the campfire and dance. It's without any doubt a once in a million experience!
